Retro 1960s teacups, with a twist
I love the classics, especially when there is a twist. And these cups and saucers from trixiedelicious fit the bill perfectly!
These hand-painted original 1960s teacups celebrate the seven deadly sins: Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, Pride, Envy, Sloth, and Lust.
They’re created by by Karen Dennis, an artist from New Zealand known for her reworked vintage china. She describes it as “vandalised vintage” or “art for people with a sense of humour”.
I particularly love the retro look of these having spent a significant part of my childhood in New Zealand. They remind me of visits to the Plunket nurse, with my mum and newborn baby brother. It was the eighties, but let me tell you, once you walk through those Karitane Hospital doors, it is straight back to the 1960s.
The walls were painted with what Kiwis affectionately refer to as ‘Karitane yellow’ – a rather garish/ babysick yellow hue – and leatherette-covered seats.
The Plunket nurse would always make sure we were comfy and happy, cups of tea were served in 1960s Crown Lynn teacups. It was something I didn’t appreciate then but when I think of it now, I get a warm fuzzy feeling and it makes me smile!
And Karen Dennis’ ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ teacups do that to me as well, they will give you that lovely squishy nostalgic feeling – and then the twist sinks in and you can’t help but let out a very wicked laugh!
Of course for the pure at heart, you could always buy these ‘Seven Heavenly Virtues’ teacups instead.
Hmmmm….. I think I’ll need both sets. Honey…! Have you seen my credit card??
